Grimes - Christmas Song II (grinch)

Ok, I love Grimes!!!!
This is my holiday season theme song.
She even manages to be cute with an axe in her hands.

Best Youth's new single Red Diamond

First single of Best Youth's upcoming LP. It is less immediate than their smash hit with Moullinex, my favourite pop track of 2014, but it is equally good. They have the ability to craft melodies that stick in my head, whatever the tempo is.
I'm curious to hear the full lenght.

Caribou - Your Love Will Set You Free (c2's Set U Free Remix)

I was a bit underwhelmed at first by Our Love, but it's a grower and a lot of listens and a Caribou concert further, it definitely became one of my favourite records of 2014.

Here's Carl Craig's remix of Your love will set you free, one of the highlights of the LP

Hunter - Memories on Midnight Side Records

Winter is only about to start and i'm already longing for warmer & sunnier days.
Memories has the exact sun-drenched, slightly melancholic but funky nu disco sound to help us through the next couple of months.

Tam...Tam...Tam...! released on Trunk Records

Remastered reissue of a hard to find  Brazilian record from the 50s.
It's one of the  recordings of Polish producer Miccio Askany's and it was part of a global touring show called Brasiliana. The music was written and recorded by José Prates.
Gilles Peterson had called for someone to reisue this record stating that this LP was a cornerstone of contemporary Brazilian sound, the roots of it all, and was essential listening, and Jonny Trunk made his wish come true.
I discovered it thanks to Jonny's weekly mailings and it truly is an exquisite LP.
Funny how on Nana Imborô you can definitely hear “Mas-Que-Nada”

Listen herebelow

Low Leaf Set Me Free video and Akashaalay Vinyl Release

She's one of my sonic darlings with Throwing Shade and Fatima.
Low Leaf's outstanding record "Akashaalay" is now out on vinyl as well and it's one for the collectors among us. The tracks have been remastered specifically for the vinyl release, it also includes a full-color sleeve with lyrics + new artwork, multi-layered gloss matte cover, lock-out grooves on each side and bonus hidden messages. So, actually, there's no excuse, even if you hade the cassette (which is my case). Support good music!
Vinyl, cassette and mp3s are available on Low Leaf's Bandcamp.

Check the video for Set Me Free.

Glass Candy - Miss Broadway (Italians do It Better)

Johnny Jewel has been uploading tracks like crazy lately on his soundcloud page.
Latest in line is Miss Broadway by Glass Candy (released on 12" in 2007). The track still sounds like a lost disco banger that should've reached us sooner. Free download ladies and chaps!
Ida No I love you!!!!!

Triple Threat: new Manuel Gonzales, Healing Force Project and hodge releases on Berceuse Heroique

ΚΕΜΑΛ / Berceuse Heroique / Ancient Monarchy

"Promoting capitalism since 2012" dixit Gizmo.

BH is one of the best labels to have emerged of our current cultural void.
I discovered Berceuse Héroique through its sister label ΚΕΜΑΛ, which released two of this year's best reissues, namely Music Of The Firewalkers (I used a track in one of my previous radio shows) and Charles Hayward's Smell of Metal.
Add to that the best edit release in years from Japan blues and you'll have an idea of the reason why I follow BH. Even though i'm not an expert in techno, I'm really fond of Berceuse's uncompromising releases and visuals.

Also, forget all the craziness surrounding Loefah's re-release, and check Full Frontal, Strange Apparitions in My Recording Room and You better Lie Down.

Have a listen and buy, Those 3 might be the best music investment you'll make this month.
They're available at Honest Jons.

Bonus:
3 mixtapes! 2 for the b-boys (ΚΕΜΑΛ and Manuel Gonzales), and another, dedicated to Miles Davis, by Healing Force Project.

New Panda Bear video Boys Latin

Panda Bear's new lp should be out in january.
First cool lp from 2015?? We'll see.
One thing's for sure, we're in known territory with track right here. It instantly sounds familiar and I don't mind that at all in this case.

The animated video was directed by Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch (from Encyclopedia Pictura)

Down To Earth Vol. 2 (The Standard Bap Edition) New Ras G record on Leaving Records/Stones Throw

Even more afro futurism for the soul. Theesatisfaction, shabazz palaces and now Ras G!
His new LP Down To Earth Vol. 2 (The Standard Bap Edition) is already out on the Stones Throw webshop. It is an ode to the boom bap hip hop he listened to while growing up. The same kind I loved so much (and still do)

Listen to "Let G know..." herebelow. I'm in love with that Aaliyah sample in there.

Carl And Carol Jacobs - Robot Jam (Emotional Rescue)

The second volume in the Caribbean reissue series by Emotional Rescue.
Robot Jam is a Trinidadian electro funky disco banger.
Idjut Boys are handling the remix duties.

Objekt - Second Witness (PAN)

Objekt's "Flatland" is another contender for album of the year.
The visuals for second witness are the result of a collaboration between Hertz, Swiss visual artist Rachel Buehlmann, and British photographer Joe Dilworth. It is rather abstract as you may imagine but really captivating, and, it's shot entirely on film.

Fatima - The biggest joke of all (Eglo records)

The new first lady of neo soul in my humble opinion.
Her record Yellow Memory is amazing, one of the best releases this year.

The biggest joke of all, produced by Floating Points, just got the video treatment.

Shabazz Palaces track Cakes remixed by animal Collective

More futuristic grooves with Shabazz Palaces' track "Cakes" remixed by Animal Collective.

New Theesatisfaction single Recognition form forthcoming LP Earthee (Sub Pop Records)

Afro-futurism for the soul.
First track from Theesatisfaction second LP, due in february.
The album features guest appearances from Shabazz Palaces, Meshell Ndegeocello, Porter Ray, Blood and Taylor Brown
Can't wait!

Chihei Hatakeyama - Too Much Sadness (White Paddy Mountain)

New music from Chihei Hatakeyama.
"Too Much Sadness" was recorded just after the March 11 earthquake and the catastrophy at the Fukushima nuclear power plant and is about Chichei's emotions at the time.
The result is beautiful.

Paradis releases new single: Sur une chanson en français

Sur une chanson en français, new track - new hit by french electronic pop band Paradis.
They've been on a continuous winning streak since they released their first 2 EPs on Beats in space. Add a string of interesting remixes for artists such as Jacques Renault and Agoria to that as well.
There is something absolutely classy about the way they sing. the lyrics well written, the french they use is exquisite and it is extremely well sung. Pure class with that pinch of melancholy i'm really fond of. The EP should be out in january (i'm hoping for a vinyl edition) and the album should be out next year as well.

S.L.Y.C. - A deafening light (Metronomicon audio)

S.L.Y.C. is Sara Lena Yri Cools' project, belgian citizen but born and brought up in Norway.
Her folk composition are delicate and hazy with a subtle touch noise.
I believethat, although different, Broadcast and Stereolab lovers will like this record as well.
A deafening light is available digitally and on cd (100 copies) on Metronomicon's bandcamp page.

Bryan Ferry - Loop De Li (Leo Zero Remixes)

The Jazz workshop - Mezare Israel Yekabtzenu (Fortuna Records)

The good people at Fortuna Records have been preparing a new release for us ladies and chaps!
Mezare Israel Yekabtzenu is a rare deep, spiritual Israeli jazz album from 1973. It is an east meets west kind of thing. Arab, Druze and Jewish compositions are mingled with the hardcore New-York jazz sound of the 60’s. And it's sounds great! Can't wait to have that one.
Release date: 01.12.14

Mirror People - Wrong Speed Records

I think we've all experienced at some point. we play a record at 45 instead of 33 and it sounds better.
Mirror people took this sonic experience one step further and made a compilation out of it.
Have a listen if you have doubts. The tracks do sound good at the wrong speed.

College Feat. Nola Wren - Save The Day (Valerie)

Gosh, there's something with College's sound that really strikes a chord with me.
It works all the time.
So, unsuprisingly I love his new track "Save The Day" featuring Nola Wren,
and the she fits like a glove in David Grellier's fantasized 80s synth universe.

Shinichi Atobe - Butterfly Effect (DDS)

 (All images taken from Boomkat)

In 2001 Shinichi Atobe released a 12", Ship Scope, on Chain Reaction.
(That record is being sold for insane prices today)
After that release Shinichi dissapeared from the earth's surface.

Ship Scope has always been a Demdike Stare favourite, which isn't that much of a surprise after listening to the tracks, so they decided to track Shinichi down. They succeeded and actually managed to compile a record of old an new tracks from the japanese producer. Butterfly Effect is out now on Demdike's DDS own imprint. (The cd version contains bonus tracks)

Drone, techno, house, ambient. The tracks i've heard so far are really really nice.
