50s and 60s street photography in Hong Kong: Fan Ho: A Hong Kong Memoir

"With a knife in his hand, a pig butcher said he would chop me. He wanted his spirit back" (taken from his interview for the South China Morning Post)

I haven't posted anything on photography for quite some time now, which is a shame because it's my other obssession. I'm ending this losing streak now! I'm so glad I finally got to discovery Fan Ho's work. I really need his pictures in my life.
The lights, the compositions, the subjects, everything's perfect in Fan Ho's street pictures.

You'll find more info concerning Fan Ho in this article posted by South China Morning Post Hong Kong.

Fan Ho: A Hong Kong Memoir his latest photography book dedicated to Hong Kong is avaliable now at Modern Book.

Miami Horror - Wild Motion (Pete Herbert Remix)

Australian indie dance outfit Miami Horror has released a cool new single not so long ago, Wild Motion (Set It Free).
Wizard Pete Herbert took the track and transformed it into a nu disco killer.
Highly recommended to start the indian summer. (Well start the summer in Belgium actually)

Miami Horror's sophomore LP should be out Late 2014.

Daniel Grau - Reworks Vol.1 by Daniel Wang & Jules Etienne (Sonar Kollektiv)

Sonar Kollektiv is about to release another interesting compilation. This one's dedicated to venezuelan producer Daniel Grau's Cosmic Disco productions between 1978 and 1982.
Prior to this release, Sonar will drop a couple of remix EPs. Vol.1 has Daniel Wang and Jules Etienne masterfully reworking two tracks. Even if you don't know the originals, you'll love the remixes. they're hot like fire.

Love International - Airport Of Love Remixes (Sonar Kollektiv)

This new EP is the premise of the third “Computer Incarnations For World Peace”, which should be released very soon (according to Sonar Kollektiv).

Airport of Love” by Love International came out in 1981 on Polydor France as the flipside of “Dance On The Groove (And Do The Funk)” and was back then most notably a huge club and radio hit in Italy.
Behind the project “Love International” were the two french guys Phillipe Chany and Philippe Kootchey, who – despite the considerable success – only produced this single track together. Chany has been a busy bee as a producer up to this very day, achieving worldwide success together with Caroline Loeb („C'est La Ouate“ was Number One in 17 countries in 1986), helping Jean-Paul Gaultier to start his own career in music and being a well respected solo artist and composer of film music with a remarkable output.

Remix duties are handles by Tigersushi's head honcho Joakim and Freedarich.
Have a listen, the reworks rock!

B Fachada - B Fachada

My soundtrack this weekend comes from Portuguese singer songwriter B Fachada
It's, for me at least, the continuation of Criôlo. afro caribean sonics, dance and pop, mixed with electronics.
I love it and I really hope that at some point a physical release will pop up.

TIA MARIA PRODUÇÕES - Tá Tipo Já Não Vamos Morrer ( Principe Discos)

The latest Principe Discos release is out now!
Jump on it ladies and gents.

TIA MARIA PRODUÇÕES is a portuguese crew ( DJ Télio, DJ B.Boy, DJ Lycox, Puto Márcio ) put together in 2012, based in Lisbon but with some of its members living in Paris and Rennes.

The EP titled “Tá Tipo Já Não Vamos Morrer” means “It’s like we won’t die anymore” and they'll definitely leave a trace with this stellar debut.
The pace of the tracks is generally slower. than DJ Marfox's tracks for instance. I find them more melodic and warmer with marimba's, conga's, African rhythms mixed to house, ambient, electronica & dance.
It definitely is today's sound (that too often used future thing i've been guilty of doesn't really matter in the end) and I can't wait to hear more from the crew and Principé Discos.

Serato unveils Serato Flip

Available in september as an expansion pack and it seems quite interesting tool to make edits.

Announcing Serato Flip. A brand new Expansion Pack for Serato DJ that allows you to create custom edits, extend and re-imagine your music.
Available this September with Serato DJ 1.7 - Flip allows you to record your cue point and censor actions which can be saved and looped, ready to re-trigger and start an instant. Use Serato Flip to create and save up to 6 Flips per track, ready for playback in the studio or the club.
The original idea of being able to record and playback cue point information in a simple way was first pitched to us by NZ producer P Money, who was already using Serato to put beats together by manually triggering cue points.
Not only a great beat sketch pad, Serato Flip can also be used as a powerful DJ tool. The simple, yet effective control set designed with the DJ in mind allows you to use it in your set in a number of ways:
  • Make clean edits of your tracks by recording censor actions.
  • Extend intros, breakdowns or outros for better mixing.
  • Create transition sections in your songs for changing tempo or beat structure.
  • Advanced tone-play and performance.
  • Auto-skipping verses or choruses in songs.
  • Making beats.
Serato Flip will be available as a paid Expansion Pack in Serato DJ 1.7, coming this September. It will be available for purchase in-app and on the Serato Online Store for USD $29.

Serato Flip Features
  • Record Cue Point & Censor Automation
Click record once to arm recording. Once you hit the first cue or censor, recording begins. Hit record again to set the end point of your Flip.
  • Prepare & Edit Tracks In Offline Mode
Use Serato Flip without your hardware connected.
  • Flip Saving
Save 6 different Flips per track. Serato Flip information is saved to your tracks metadata and doesn't edit the audio of the track. You can delete cue points and your Flip will still be remembered.
  • Hardware Controls, Keyboard Shortcut & Midi Mappable
Control Flip directly from your computer or your controller with a keyboard shortcut and hardware controls being mapped for supported current and future hardware. Flip controls are also MIDI mappable for use with the MIDI controller of your choice.
  • Looping / Loop Snap
Choose whether your recorded Flip plays through once or loops. Select whether your looped Flip will snap to an end-point that's on beat with your track.
  • Recall and Replay
Turn Flips ON / OFF and start your Flip on track load or whenever you like.
  • Make perfect edits
Platter movements aren't recorded so you can move the platter to an exact point and trigger a cue point to make the perfect Flip.
  • Name your Flips
Just like Serato DJs nameable Cue Points you can also name your Flips. The name of your Flip will appear in the deck info area when the track is loaded.
